we are lichen, two in one

we are in gestation, waiting

we are at the surface coming up for air

we are contingent, unspeakable bonds unfettered by birth and death

we are courtship taken seriously

we are a marketplace ripe with innovation

we are a risk worth taking

we are interfaith equations, diversity calculated by long division

we are keeping it together, cross-stitched, no cheating

we are a bake sale, an effort to do something instead of nothing

we are ellipses. . . a convenient pause between now and then

we are the difference between is and seems

we are readymade, there for the taking

we are okay, just this once, an exception to the rule

we are deliberate, an unstoppable desert storm

we are skeleton keys commonly misplaced at the moment of departure

we are getting things off the ground

we are outsourced tenderness, someone else sewing your buttons
