1.5 – On the mere exposure effect (Favorite Song)

by Michael Smilovitch

Feathers blast through seasoned axons
A stallion stranded at sea might recall
Bound to sound by ancient wiring
Rooted in process and taught wherewithal

Tickled in tandem these regions erupt
And sweet recognition oozes liqueur
Our basket of eggs, afloat in the fluid
As gentle as plastic while still immature

This fragile box in which fleeting sensation
Is bolstered each time it is merely exposed
From today to day-to-day acquiring
Audibles entered and blueprints imposed

The volta may drag us, screaming
Teeth clenched upon rusted hooks
Which pierce the gleaming pockets of our
Whistle-prone cavities

Or rather tonal shades may soft approach
That grace the outskirts obscure but ripe
We float with easy coached integrity
Nodding along, branded by waves

Burned deep, enduring
There is no difference
Since ears have no eyelids
Pried open and bare
