I

Laughter elapsed.
Impermanence is a jay.

Wind in wild grass is
where it cannot stay.

II

A venus-moon
leans in indigo, hushed

filters through
shifts of cirrus.

The bear unburdened,
seven fires lengthened
into silver over time.
An age before our eyes—

all that's left of light remains.

III

Our ground's unstable.
Geologic time

and vaster weather,
asterisms. An infant's eye.

IV

Dust on the banister
turning into light
on the landing. The
lilt of wood and wind.

V

The child purls into

my lap tapping
at a book, with his index

extending to the patterned dark,
two blues from dusk—

I, too must. I have been
only to remember

forgetting that life
is to give, time but a stitch

in the side of what is.

VI

Arc of the
ephemeral,

eternal waking—
no plateau.
